PETER KEUP, GERMANY
Invite to a visit and a lecture.
THEMES OF THE LECTURE
Life in East Germany and Stasi investigations.
Peter Keup (born in 1958 in Radebeul) was a successful ballroom dancer and participated in GDR in numerous championships. His desire was to participate in dance competitions in the West and to make a dancing career. Therefore he desired to escape but the attempt failed in Czechoslovakia in July 1981. He was arrested in a train near the border. His fault was that he did not have any return ticket to East Germany. Because of the attempt at "illegal emigration" he was sentenced to ten month in prison. He arrived in March 1982 to the West Germany as a part of the prisoner free purchase. Peter Keup has since the fall of the wall had his own dance school in Dinslaken.
